EDF Energy is a British integrated energy company, wholly owned by the French state-owned EDF (Électricité de France).
The organisation employs around 12,000 people, and handles over 5 million business and residential customer accounts.
Their main operations are electricity generation and the sale of natural gas and electricity to homes and businesses throughout the United Kingdom. They pride themselves with their strong emphasis on renewable sources of energy.
The Challange
When EDF came to us, they were already managing their main pay review through an existing HR system. However, due to the complexity of the salary and bonus rules, their executive review was run using spreadsheets.
Because of this, the creation and management of these spreadsheets had become a massive burden in two significant ways:
It required a senior reward manager with expert level Excel skills to build and maintain the spreadsheets.
It drained the main reward team’s resources by drawing them into the day-to-day management of the review, rather than this responsibility resting with business level HR teams.
The first issue created a business risk. A single point of failure existed in a business critical process, with only one person having the skills and knowledge to maintain the spreadsheets. The second issue saw a significant cost in using high level resources that could be deployed on higher value activity.
“We were impressed with how PayReview adapted to our existing processes so we didn’t have to work in a way which was too unfamiliar.”
The Solution
The key focus of our work with EDF Energy was the implementation of their complex business rules. Such a large-scale executive review involved managing numerous calculations and logic in order to ensure the correct compensation.
We met this challenge with PAYreview's robust custom calculation functionality. This allowed us to tailor-make calculations and field types, giving EDF Energy the flexibility to easily incorporate their unique operational complexities.
Moreover, the system's inherent flexibility was utilised to incorporate their compa ratios, ensuring a solution that perfectly matched their business needs.
Another core aspect of this review was data visibility controls.
Given the executive suite's involvement, it's crucial to precisely define who has access to view and edit specific information. Fortunately, PAYreview's controls offer nuanced access management to lock down the review's progression throughout multiple levels of approval..
This all resulted in a meticulously designed review that perfect captures all of EDF’s intricate rules and logic. All whilst keeping data secure and the budget in tact. What’s more, we were with them every step of the way to help design and implement the solution.
As with all our customers, our commitment to EDF Energy extends beyond the initial implementation. Each year, we actively update and refine the review process to align with both their evolving requirements and PAYreviews new features
This ongoing partnership with EDF Energy exemplifies our dedication to providing dynamic, custom-fit software solutions that not only meet but anticipate and evolve with our clients' needs, ensuring operational excellence and strategic alignment.
“The support team’s responsiveness and knowledge of our pay review ensured sure we always felt in safe hands.”
